«Kasiret» Memorial Complex
The Kasiret Memorial Complex is a historical memorial dedicated to the victims of political repression. It was established to preserve historical memory and honor those who suffered during the tragic events of the past.
The Kasiret memorial complex is a historical memorial dedicated to the victims of political repression. It serves as a solemn reminder of one of the most tragic periods of the twentieth century and commemorates thousands of innocent people who suffered during the 1930s, 1940s, and early 1950s.
According to historical records, approximately 101,000 people in Kazakhstan were subjected to political repression, of whom around 27,000 were sentenced to execution. In the South Kazakhstan region alone, more than 7,000 people became victims of repression. These facts underline the profound historical significance of the memorial.
The complex is designed in a restrained yet deeply symbolic architectural style. The composition consists of marble stones placed between two metal grilles. Behind the grilles is the image of a weeping eye, artistically conveying the tragedy and suffering of those years. The burial site of the victims is covered by a large stone symbolizing silent grief and eternal remembrance.
At the highest point of the memorial stands a sculpture of a mother holding her child. This powerful image symbolizes maternal sorrow, responsibility toward future generations, and the tragedy endured by the people.
The memorial is surrounded by a park designed to evoke an atmosphere of tranquility and reflection. Green spaces, roses, and fruit trees symbolize both mourning and hope, as well as the inseparable connection between history and life. This environment encourages visitors to reflect on the past and preserve its memory for future generations.
Every year on may 31, Kazakhstan observes the Day of Remembrance of victims of political repression and famine. This date serves as a reminder of one of the darkest chapters in the nation’s history and highlights the importance of peace, unity, and mutual understanding.
