Asanbay Askarov «Dendrological» Park №1

The Asanbay Askarov Dendrological Park is one of the largest green spaces in the city. Covering an area of 117 hectares, it is a picturesque location ideally suited for outdoor recreation and relaxation.

The Asanbay Askarov «Dendrological» park is one of the largest and most unique green spaces in Kazakhstan, distinguished by its ecological and scientific importance. Enhancing the natural landscape of Shymkent, the park was established in 1979 on the site of a former landfill and transformed into a flourishing green oasis.

Today, the park covers an area of 117 hectares. It is home to approximately 80,000 trees and more than 1,360 species of shrubs. This remarkable botanical diversity represents not only aesthetic beauty but also significant scientific and environmental value.

Particularly noteworthy is the presence of rare and exotic plant species that are seldom found elsewhere in Kazakhstan. This greatly enhances the park’s botanical and scientific significance. In addition, the first North American tulip species introduced to Kazakhstan was successfully cultivated here.

One of the park’s most important cultural attractions is the Alley of Distinguished Personalities. This area preserves the memory of prominent political and public figures who personally planted trees in the park. Among them are Dinmukhamed Kunaev, Mukhtar Auezov, Asanbay Askarov, and Suleyman Demirel.

In 2016, by decision of the city maslikhat, the park was officially named after Asanbay Askarov, who served as the First Secretary of the South Kazakhstan Regional Party Committee.

Today, the «Dendrological» park serves as a major recreational destination where residents and visitors can enjoy nature, engage in sports, take leisurely walks, and spend quality time with family while contributing to environmental sustainability.
